Aston Villa have reached an agreement to acquire John Duran from Chicago Fire.
According to sources, Fire will receive an initial $18m (£14.8m) for the 19-year-old forward, with a further $4m (£3.3m) in potential performance-related incentives.
The transfer is contingent on Durán completing a medical examination, agreeing to personal terms and obtaining a visa.
Durán had eight goals and five assists in 22 MLS appearances last season.
His impressive campaign saw him called up to the Colombian senior team for the first time and has since won three caps.
The Fire purchased 17-year-old Duran from Colombia’s Envigado for around $2 million. He joined the Fire for his MLS campaign in 2022 after spending one more season with Columbia until he turned 18.
Durán had played 49 times and scored 10 goals for Envigado before his move.
He wasn’t included in the Fire’s 25-man squad for preseason training camp, which was released Sunday.
If his move goes through, Durán would be Villa’s second signing in January, following Alex Moreno, who was signed from Real Betis last week.
Meanwhile, Villa have already ditched a young forward and Cameron Archer has joined Middlesbrough on loan until the end of the season.
