Barcelona president Joan Laporta has revealed that he wants to “live the American experience” when Sergio Busquets finally decides to leave the Camp Nou.
Busquets, 34, could have moved to the United States from Barcelona in January, but decided to extend his stay in his native Spain. He has appeared in his 27 games in all competitions this season.
The veteran midfielder, who has won eight LaLiga titles and three Champions League titles with Barcelona, could secure a move to MLS in July as his contract expires in the summer. Inter Miami are said to be one of his admirers.
Speaking on Thursday, Laporta said: He had an offer from MLS. He never hid it from us. He wants to live the American experience.
“He could have left in January of this year. It was an option, but fortunately he decided to stay and finish the season with us. I think he is strong enough to continue from the summer. If you believe, we’ll sit down and talk again. That’s what we agreed on on all parts.”
Some media outlets linked the move of 20-year-old Barcelona forward Ansu Fati to Manchester United this week, but Laporta may not need to sell the star to get rid of some of his hefty debt. I claimed.
When asked if there will be a big sale this summer, Laporta replied: But every market has opportunities, and we’re looking at them. However, we believe there may be solutions other than a large sale.
“At the moment, we are not looking to sell Ansu. We cannot predict the future, but we have high hopes for him. It depends on how useful it is.
“He is calm and we like Ansu. But we cannot guarantee that the player will continue. There are always news and rumors. But what we know at the moment is that the player is happy here and wants to succeed at this club.”
Barcelona struggled to sign new signings such as Robert Lewandofsi and Jules Kunde last summer after problems with La Liga’s fundraising scheme.
However, Laporta believes the club will be able to compete for players in next summer’s transfer market despite the financial crisis.
“I think we will improve the team, but of course we will abide by all the rules and listen to what the manager and the sporting direction say. We are ready.
“We also have a scouting department that investigates the situation of players we are interested in. We have a strong team, but I don’t think a scenario where we are forced not to sign new players will happen. increase.”
Barcelona are top of La Liga, eight points behind second-placed Real Madrid.
Xavi’s side will face Villarreal on Sunday before hosting Manchester United in the first leg of the Europa League knockout play-off tie.
