With control, dribbling and passing from Cristian Parano on the move, San Antonio FC’s third goal of the night in the 2022 USL Championship Finals was everything you could expect from one of the greatest goals in the history of the game.
Championship Finals MVP Santiago Patiño said, “I think there is something special about Cristian Palano. He helps the forwards. His dribbling ability, his size makes him really hard to stop. He’s great. He’s humble, hard worker and we love him. It’s for the team. A great addition and he helped us win this championship.”
The 2019 USL Championship Young Player of the Year in the colors of San Antonio, the young Argentinian returned to Alamo City looking to reclaim the form he had his chances in Europe. On Sunday night, he responded to the memory many still remember of him.
Parano, who reappeared in the lineup, completed 5 of 8 dribbles overall, but was in the center of some of the best moments for the hosts. In the 13th minute, his perseverance and timing saw Patiño dove behind the defense to set up what could have been Samuel Adeniran’s first goal. Midway through the second half, another twist run drew a free-kick, resulting in Adenirans tally, San Antonio’s second of the night.
And the final blow with 20 minutes remaining.
“It felt great,” said SAFC head coach Allen Marsina.
