West Bromwich Albion have continuously moved up the English Football League Championship table over recent weeks with American forward Daryl Dike playing the hero in Monday’s latest victory.
Dike scored the winning goal as West Brom defeated Reading 1-0 at the Hawthorns, moving to ninth place in the table. It was Dike’s second goal of the season as he continues to get back to his best for the club.
Carlos Corberan’s side was pestered by Reading for most of the match but eventually found a breakthrough goal in the 60th minute. Jayson Molumby’s cross was headed home by Dike at the near post, giving the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Dike was substituted off in the 66th minute, finishing the match with five duels won, three fouls drawn, and a total of eight shots (two on goal). It was his third start since returning from injury in November.
West Brom would hang on to earn its sixth victory from its past seven matches, staying in touching distance of the promotion playoff spots. Only Burnley has totaled more points in the last six matches than West Brom (15 points from six matches).
“A good ball is only made by the striker’s movement,” Molumby said about Dike in his postmatch interview. “Credit to Daryl, he deserves that. He’s had a tough period and to get that second since he’s been back is brilliant.”
The Baggies hit the road for their next three matches, starting with an FA Cup trip to Chesterfield on Saturday. Luton Town and Burnley will also await in EFL Championship action over the next two weeks.
