Hartford, Connecticut – Hartford Athletic announced Thursday that midfielder Andre Ruiz will be returning to the club for the 2023 USL Championship season. Lewis was previously contracted for the upcoming campaign.
“I am thrilled to be back in Hartford,” Lewis said. “At the end of last season, under this technical staff, we have made great progress. I am excited about the direction the club is heading into 2023. I believe we can achieve this and bring the club back into the playoffs.”
Lewis will return for a second season after Hartford acquired him from fellow USL Championship club Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC in January. The Jamaican midfielder proved to be a worthy acquisition for the club as he scored 6 goals and he scored 3 assists in 33 appearances during the 2022 campaign. Lewis also recorded the second-most chances created in 40, behind his fellow returnee Danny Barrera.
Hartford manager Tab Ramos said: “Andre has done well last year and brought a lot of creativity into midfield. , I was very pleased with his reaction and I expect him to make a significant contribution to the team next season and become an elite player in this league.”
The eight-year USL Championship veterans were named USL Championship Team of the Week for their performances in Weeks 17 and 30. His penalty, which scored the third goal, was named “Moment of the Year” at this year’s Fans’ Choice Awards.
