Pittsburgh – Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC announced Tuesday that the club has signed defender Trevor Zwetroot to a one-year deal with a 2024 team option. This transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Zwetsloot is a 6-foot-2 defender/defensive midfielder who joined the Hounds after playing in the MLS Next Pro last season in New England Revolution II, making 21 appearances for the MLS club’s reserve side.
“Trevor is a competitive kid who shows up every day in his helmet and is ready to learn,” said Hounds head coach Bob Lilly. He has a lot of potential and I believe he will be a good addition to our team as we head into the 2023 USL Championship season.”
Before playing for New England, the 23-year-old spent 2021 with the Melbourne Knights of the Australian Second Division, making 16 appearances. He also spent 2018-2019 in the academy of German club Werder Bremen, making one appearance for the club’s reserve side and featured more frequently in the U-19 squad.
Zwetsloot played youth football in his hometown of Auckland, New Zealand and made seven international youth appearances for New Zealand at the U-19 and U-20 age levels.
