Over three decades in the making the University of Vermont men’s soccer team will appear in the NCAA tournament quarterfinal round.
After comeback wins over Quinnipiac and SMU and a rout of UCLA the Catamounts (16-3-2) have earned the right to travel to Syracuse (16-2-4) on Saturday with a trip to the College Cup up for grabs. UVM earned a 1-1 draw against Syracuse on Sept. 2 in Burlington. The last UVM squad to reach the quarterfinals was the 1989 team that won a program-best 19 games.
Following the tie UVM scorched to an 11-game winning streak and Syracuse, who hasn’t lost since Oct. 4, won the ACC championship with victories over No. 11 Virginia and No. 18 Clemson.
Syracuse won last year’s meeting 5-2 in New York.
