England soccer team captain Leah Williamson revealed how she almost quit the sport due to the mental pressure she was under. As a young player on the Arsenal women’s soccer team, Leah Williamson was already feeling the pressure to succeed. As the team’s captain, she felt an even greater weight on her shoulders to lead her team to victory.

She plays as a central defensive player for Arsenal in the Women’s Super League (WSL) and is the captain of the England National team. She has been part of Arsenal FC for the majority of her career. Leah made her debut in 2014 when she played her first match in Arsenal Jersey.

This was just the start of her prolific career. As she was named the captain of the England National Team in 2021. Leah then went on to lead the England squad to win the Euro 2022. However, the pressure to perform at a high level took its toll on Leah. And she was on the verge of quitting soccer altogether.
Recently in ‘Women’s Health’ magazine, Leah Williamson revealed how she almost quit the sport due to the mental pressure she was under. “I felt like I needed to win for my club and my country, and if I felt that was under threat, I’d be a wreck.” She said. “I’d have thoughts like ‘well when I retire, I won’t have to deal with these nerves’, which is f*cked! Like, I’m wishing away my career because I can’t deal with my own performance anxiety”.

Thankfully, she got the help she needed from England and Arsenal psychiatrist, Kate Green. With Kate’s help, Leah was able to get back on track and continue her successful career. ”I owe my life to my psych” – Leah said.

Leah is an excellent example of what can be accomplished with dedication and hard work. Even under immense pressure, she has achieved great things. Her determination and talent are impressive, and it will be interesting to see how she develops her career from here.
