Indianapolis – The Indy-Eleven announced Friday that they have acquired defender Macquarie King in a move from fellow USL championship club Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC. In response, Boys in Blue transferred forward Jonas Feldberg to the Switchbacks. Per club policy, the terms of the contract are not disclosed.
King made his second return to Circle City after starting his USL Championship career at Indy in 2019. He made 22 appearances this season, starting 17 games and recording 1,488 minutes, helping the club reach the Eastern Conference Finals. He won the 2019 USL Championship Playoffs with an overall record of 19-9-6, including an undefeated record at home. That season, King had one goal and three assists for the Boys in Blue, adding 25 clears, four blocks, 14 interceptions, and 17 tackles, and won 86 duels. The Englishman from Leicester has made 25 appearances for the club so far.
The move will see King reunite with current Indy head coach Mark Lowry, who led the club when it acquired El Paso Locomotive FC on August 11, 2020. He spent two seasons with Locomotive FC, where he appeared in 37 games and scored 2,881 RBIs. minute. King had seven goals and five assists during his time in El Paso, earning five USL Championship Team of the Week honors.
In January 2022, King moved to Colorado Springs and appeared in 12 games for the Switchbacks, recording 579 minutes in his first season. With limited playing time due to injury, King had six clears and six interceptions while posting a passing accuracy of just over 74 percent. Heading into the 2023 season, King started all five games he played in Colorado Springs, recording eight clears, three blocks, three interceptions and two shots.
King will compete in the Indy contest at Sacramento Republic FC on Saturday.
