As if the prospect of facing the Tampa Bay Rowdies, who have won six of their last seven games, wasn’t enough, El Paso Locomotive FC is facing another opponent Saturday night at Southwest University Park. You might feel like
For head coach Brian Krahout, the aftermath of last Saturday’s hard-fought match against Copa Tejas rival San Antonio FC began to show in his team’s 2-1 victory over Las Vegas Lights FC on Wednesday.
“I think some of our players have symptoms of a hangover in San Antonio,” Krallhout said. “We made a few passing mistakes in the first half, at the end of the first half. You can see that there were high fatigue levels and some mistakes that were a bit unusual for certain players.”
The hosts were plagued by Wrights FC, with 13 crosses and 9 shots in the second half alone, with a notable possession advantage. Center-backs Eric McKew and Bence Pavkovic combined for 14 clears, while goalkeeper Benny Diaz held off Las Vegas, who were looking to tie the game with five saves.
Thanks to that, Locomotive FC re-emerged with all three points, winning eight of their last nine games and heading into this weekend’s game on a point tie with Western Conference leaders Sacramento Republic FC. It became a thing. The run, as well as the club’s longest streak of goals in 13 games, has returned Locomotive FC to prominence in the championship after a difficult season a year ago.
