El Paso, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC defender Marton Demko has been named to the Hungarian Under-17 Men’s National Team for the 2023 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, which starts in Hungary on 17 May.
Demko was originally called up to a pre-tournament training camp in Hungary last week and was one of 21 players to earn selection to the European qualifiers for the FIFA U-17 World Cup in November this year.
The 17-year-old dual citizen moved to El Paso from Florida last November and signed with Locomotive FC’s first team in March as a USL Academy player. Since then, he has practiced with El Paso’s top team, gaining valuable experience early in his playing career.
As hosts, Hungary were automatically placed in Group A. Hungary kicks off the tournament with Wales on Wednesday night (2pm ET), before playing Poland on Saturday (2pm ET) and ending the group stage with the Republic of Ireland next Tuesday. (2:00 p.m. Eastern time.
The top five teams at the end of the U-17 Euro will qualify for the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup in November.
