oakland, california – Auckland Roots SC announced on Thursday that the club has signed midfielder Napo Matsoso, who will join the club for the first time ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The signature is pending league and federation approval.
Matsoso recently competed for USL Championship mates Louisville City FC, where he has spent the past five seasons. The 28-year-old from Lesotho has been a regular at Luis City in his season and playoffs where he appeared in 89 games, recording 4,787 minutes of action, creating 11 goals, 4 assists and 40 chances, while the team made his Helped win the 2018 USL Championship title. Additionally, he has reached the USL Championship Finals twice (2019, 2022).

Matsoso competed in college at the University of Kentucky and was selected 31st overall in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft by the New England Revolution. At the beginning of his 2018 season he played in USL League 2 in Mississippi where he played against Brillah FC before returning to Kentucky and signing with Roux City midway through the season. In addition to his domestic club career, Matsoso has made two appearances for Lesotho’s men’s national team at international level.
