On Thursday, five players from the USL Championship were selected to represent Trinidad and Tobago in the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup: Auckland Roots SC’s Neville Huckshaw, Hartford Athletic’s Triston Hodge and Miami FC’s Ryan Telfer. was scheduled to participate in the tournament as the Soca Warriors. The trio will join Charleston Battery’s Leland Archer and San Antonio FC’s Shannon Gomez in a group selected by head coach Angus Eve at DRV PNK Stadium in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on June 25. Stage opens.
A two-time USL Championship All-League selection, Hackshaw is one of the most experienced members of the team, making 29 appearances for his country during his career. The 27-year-old has made 176 championship appearances in his career, in both the regular season and the playoffs, and joined Oakland this season after playing for the Charleston Battery and Indy Eleven over the past seven seasons.
Hodge played in all three group stage games two years ago and is on the cusp of a second consecutive Gold Cup appearance. The 28-year-old has made 22 appearances for the Soca Warriors in his career, and made 80 championship appearances when he joined Athletic from the Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC this offseason.
Telfer has scored seven goals in 19 senior-level appearances for T&T, including one goal and two assists in Concacaf Nations League B in March, helping his team qualify for the tournament. The 29-year-old has made 13 appearances since joining Miami earlier this season, playing for Toronto FC II earlier in his career before joining the Canadian Premier League.
