Christian Pulisic will miss “several weeks” after suffering a knee injury against Manchester City, Chelsea head coach Graham Potter has confirmed.
Pulisic suffered an injury on Thursday In the first half of the Premier League match between Chelsea and City, he limped after a clean challenge from John Stones.
Chelsea lost the game 1-0 and the struggling Blues were again beaten by City on Sunday.
At the post-match press conference, Potter confirmed that the USA team will be out for a while.
“Christian opened his knee in the game the other day. We’re still analyzing it,” Potter said. “I think it will take a few weeks for him.”
Potter are under great pressure after another defeat, with Chelsea currently sitting 10th in the Premier League, missing the Carabao Cup and FA Cup. against Borussia Dortmund.
Transfer Pulisic?
The USMNT star has been linked with a move from Chelsea during the January transfer window, but the injury could end his chances of leaving.
Pulisic had only made a total of five starts for Chelsea before the World Cup suspension, sparking rumors that he may be considering leaving in search of more consistent playing time.
After a strong World Cup, however, Pulisic was on his way back to Potter’s first-team plans, starting all three of Chelsea’s first games after the break.
Pulisic, who has struggled with injuries at times during his Chelsea career, is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2024.
