sacramento, california – Sacramento Republic FC announced Wednesday that the club has signed defender Aldea Sanchez ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. This transaction is pending league and federation approval.
The 20-year-old turned pro with Quails after impressive results in pre-season training with the club. Sanchez, who graduated from his Portland Timbers academy, competed in college athletics at the University of North Carolina, where in two of his seasons he appeared in 30 games. During his college career, Sanchez also played in his USL League 2 for his club, PDX FC, and during the 2019 campaign, he earned a spot with the USL Academy signing with Timbers 2. He has made two appearances in the USL Championship.
Todd Dunivant, President and General Manager of Republic FC, said: “He faced three different opponents in his MLS and was ready to challenge each time. It fits seamlessly into the locker room.”
Sanchez is the sixth player to earn a professional contract after participating in open tryouts since Republic FC’s debut season in 2014. Previously, Emrakulimenta and Max Alvarez earned him a spot on the final 2014 title-winning roster, while Mackenzie Prydham and Elliott said he was hoarded when he joined the club in 2016, defender Ashkanov his Apollo joins the team in 2020.
