Rodolfo Borrell is set to leave Manchester City and join Major League Soccer side Austin FC.
The Spaniard, who was one of Pep Guardiola’s most trusted assistants during his time at the club, is set to leave after nine years at Manchester.
He will take over as Austin’s sporting director, succeeding former Manchester City player Claudio Reina, who resigned in January.
Borrell joined City from Liverpool in 2014 and was appointed first-team assistant coach when Guardiola took over in 2016.
Borrell has been a key behind-the-scenes man throughout Guardiola’s tenure, which culminated in the 2022/23 Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League triumphs.
The player is due to leave the club this summer along with Enzo Maresca, another of Guardiola’s coaching team.
The Italian left the club earlier this month to join Leicester City as head coach.
It’s not the first time Mr Borrell has discussed leaving the United States. In 2020, he held discussions with DC United about a head coaching role.
Austin currently sits eighth in the Western Conference after 19 games in the MLS season.
