The Manteca girls soccer team’s streak of shutouts ended Wednesday in a 4-4 draw with visiting Gregori.
Cami Silva scored all four for the Buffaloes (6-0-1), who had victory snatched away in the final minute. The Jaguars (3-0-1) from Modesto were awarded a free kick because of a handball just outside Manteca’s penalty box, and they converted.
“This was our first big test of the season, and we definitely saw some things we need to improve on,” Maneca coach Justin Coenenberg said. “It’s still early on in the preseason, so we’re going to get back to work and possibly tweak some things.”
Gregori struck first with two early goals. Manteca responded with Silva’s four tallies and led 4-2 at halftime. Alexia Alva assisted two, and Corrine Jones one.
Manteca opens their Buffalo Cup tournament Friday against Edison starting at 6:15 p.m.
Lathrop 1, Ceres 1
The Spartans (2-0-1, 2-3-1 overall) salvaged a point in the Western Athletic Conference road match.
Elizabeth Enriquez beat the Ceres keeper 1-on-1 to tie it with eight minutes to go. She was set up by a pass from Allana Lewis.
Coach Diana Nevarez lauded Lupe Zepeda for her play on defense.
Ripon Christian 5, Big Valley Christian 0
The Knights (3-1) took care of Big Valley (1-1-1) on the road, getting scoring contributions from five different players.
Addison DeJong got them rolling with a direct kick in the seventh minute. Hailey Henderson doubled the lead with 4 minutes left in the first half. Dayna Koolhaas, Anneke Dyt and Taylor Postma added to the tally with one apiece in the second half.
Goalie Tara Heida notched her second shutout of the season.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Ripon Christian 54, Liberty Ranch 38
The Knights (3-2) led 28-17 at halftime and didn’t look back, bouncing back from a lopsided Day 1 loss in the Mark Gallo Invitational.
They burned Liberty Ranch (2-3) for eight 3-pointers, three each from Eli Terpsma and Luke Crivello. Terpsma tallied a game-high 15 points, and Crivello had 13. Jace Beidleman contributed six points and 13 rebounds.
Patterson 50, East Union 43
The difference was a 14-7 third-quarter advantage for visiting Patterson (4-1).
Dylan Lee led the Lancers (5-3) with 21 points. Alex Cuevas chipped in with 11, and Alex Cervantes had seven.
BOYS SOCCER
Franklin 4, Sierra 3
Visiting Sierra (2-3) scored its goals in the first half and led 3-2 at the intermission but could not hold off the Yellowjackets (2-2).
Alejandro Paz accounted for all three of the Timberwolves’ goals, while Jorge Reyes assisted two of them. Aiden Lorin-Lira compiled seven goalie saves.
JV girls soccer
Lathrop 2, Ceres 0
Elyanna Fernandez accounted for both goals. Lathrop improved to 2-1 in the WAC, 3-1 overall.
