San Antonio – San Antonio FC announced Thursday that the club has acquired forward Tani Olwasay on loan from Minnesota United FC of Major League Soccer for the remainder of the 2023 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and MNUFC reserves the right to recall Olwasei at any time during the term of the loan.
SAFC head coach Allen Martina said, “We’re grateful to have Tani on our team and provide Minnesota with a loan.”Tani is a vertical runner with game-changing speed. At ball, he has demonstrated success in one-on-one attacking duels, has the ability to create for himself and his teammates, and has shown his ability to score goals. We look forward to integrating it into our identity.”
Oluwasay joined the SAFC to start the 2023 season after appearing in two of Minnesota’s eight games. A product of St. John’s, he was selected 17th overall in the 2022 MLS SuperDraft after he tallied 20 goals and he had 10 assists in his 49 games at the university.
“If you look at the last two years with Tani, he was in his final year of college and had a serious knee injury, and last year he was in and out, never getting on top of it. No, but now he’s fit and healthy, and we want him to be in the best tournament he can play on a regular basis, which is the USL. [Championship]said MNUFC head coach Adrian Heath. “San Antonio is last year’s champion, a great environment, a good crowd and the right stadium.
“I feel like Tani gets better ideas and better images when he’s playing consistently, which is the best route for him at the moment. We still have high hopes for him.” and I think there is something there.
