San Antonio – San Antonio FC announced Wednesday that it has signed forward Nico Hansen ahead of the 2023 USL Championship season. The deal is pending league and federation approval, and per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Since being selected ninth overall by Columbus Crew SC in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, Hansen has seven goals and eight assists in 83 regular season appearances. Most recently, he spent the last two seasons at Minnesota United, but his most productive season was in 2018, when he played 1,031 minutes at Columbus, where he scored three goals and assisted three. Hansen’s time at Columbus in 2017 and 2018 saw him play alongside current SAFC captains Conor Maloney and Mohamed Abu. He then played for Dynamo FC in Houston before signing with Minnesota.
Before joining the professional ranks, Hansen played in the USL League 2 for the Sounders FC U-23 while competing for college at the University of New Mexico.
