Area Prep Soccer Report for Thursday, Dec. 8
The first Louisiana High School Soccer Coaches Association polls are out and two area teams top their respective divisions.
In Division II, traditional power Holy Cross (5-0) owns the top spot, edging out Archbishop Rummel. St. Thomas More is third with Ben Franklin fourth and East Jefferson fifth. Grace King is eighth.
In Division IV, Newman (5-0) is the unanimous top-ranked team with Episcopal of Acadiana second and Holy Savior Menard third. St. Thomas Aquinas is fourth with Northlake Christian fifth and Pope John Paul II sixth and Country Day seventh.
In Division I, Denham Springs (7-0) owns the top spot with Catholic of Baton Rouge second. St. Paul’s is third with Jesuit fourth and Mandeville and Acadiana tied for fifth.
In Division III, University Lab is the No. 1 team with Bossier second and The Willow School third. St. Louis Catholic is fourth with Morgan City fifth. Kenner Discovery is seventh with Haynes Academy ninth.

In a matchup of top area girls teams Wednesday evening, Mount Carmel Academy edged defending Division IV state champion Academy of the Sacred Heart 1-0 at Pan American Stadium.
Hana Hammond decided the outcome with a first half goal.Emily Dufrechou made the goal stand up with a clean sheet in goal for the Cubs.
Mount Carmel (5-1-1) returns to action Saturday at Northshore at 3 p.m. while the Cardinals (4-3) will face Ben Franklin Friday at 5 p.m.
