BORDENTOWN — The Soccer Referees Association of Central Jersey celebrated the end of the 2022 season Thursday by awarding three student-athletes with $500 scholarships at Villa Mannino with 50 family and friends in attendance proudly watching.
Two senior females, Notre Dame High’s Ryan Carr and Nottingham High’s Sydney Auletta, plus one senior male, Notre Dame’s Pablo Argueta, were chosen as scholarship recipients.
Carr, the Irish’s team captain, has a 3.7 grade point average, is a peer leader and a member of Joey’s Angels.
She played in the backfield for head coach Lauren Diaz‘ 7-8-2 team, provided a goal with an assist, and was a second team All-CVC selection.
Auletta has a 4.25 GPA is a member of the National Honor Society, the World Language Honor Society and plans to attend Penn State University in the fall. Her head coach, Matt Paglione, said, “Sydney is among the top students I have taught in my career.”
She was also a second team All-CVC selection from the 3-13 Northstars, on which she was a midfielder who had five goals and five assists.
Argueta, who maintains a 3.7 GPA in the classroom, helped the Irish go 13-0 in CVC play and 16-4 overall this fall by supplying seven goals and 13 assists from his new midfield position. Last week he was invited to a showcase in Florida for prospective college players.
Irish head coach Bryan Fisher said, “Pablo was very talented on the ball and was a great teammate.” He was a first team All-CVC pick as well as a first team All-Area selection by The Trentonian this fall.
The SRACJ, which has been working high school soccer games in Mercer and Burlington Counties since 1959 and is one of the state’s highly recognized Chapters each fall season, also took the time to honor two of its own with Bill Friedman selected as Referee of the Year and Samuel Green chosen as Rookie of the Year.
