Thiem Pukki has signed with MLS side Minnesota United.
The 33-year-old Pukki was made available on a free transfer after his contract with English club Norwich City expired.
The Finnish striker has signed a two-year designated player contract with Minnesota, with an option to extend through December 2025, to occupy a spot on the international roster.
“I feel like we’ve got the goalscorer we’ve been craving ever since Christian Ramirez left. He’s the gold standard, a proven goalscorer,” said Minnesota head coach Adrian Heath. said.
“If you look at his record, he has scored at a high level for every team he has played for.
“He’s a great professional, you get what you see, always gets the job done with a smile on his face and a great teammate.
“In fact he’s scoring goals and I know he can definitely be successful in this league if we keep creating chances this season. We have him here. , I am delighted to be able to integrate into the group.”
Pukki’s Finnish team-mate Robin Rodo joined the Minnesota squad in 2019 from Sporting Gijon in Spain.
Minnesota has won just five of 18 league games this season and sits 12th in the Western Conference.
Pukki scored 88 goals in 210 games in his five years at Norwich, including 22 goals in two Premier League seasons.
The former Sevilla, Celtic and Schalke forward is also Finland’s all-time leading scorer with 38 goals in 112 caps. He also helped Finland qualify for the 2020 European Championships, its first major tournament.
