DOHA, Qatar—As the U.S. men’s national team qualified for the knockout rounds of the World Cup on Tuesday night, no one had more touches of the ball than midfielder Tyler Adams.
They weren’t the most memorable—he finished the 1-0 victory over Iran with no goals or assists. They weren’t even the most dangerous—the bulk of them occurred more than 40 yards from Iran’s goal. But they were among the most meaningful of the night. That’s because everything this American team does in Qatar, sooner or later, runs through the heart of its midfield, Tyler Adams.
