edinburgh, texas – Rio Grande Valley FC announced on Friday that the club has signed goalkeeper Carlos Melancio ahead of the club’s 2023 USL Championship campaign. The signature is pending league and federation approval.
Melancio began his career in his native Mexico, competing in the Academy ranks for Monarcas Morelia, and in 2018 he played one official match for the Monarcas Morelia Premier.
In 2019, Melancio made the jump to USL League 1 and joined FC Tucson, making 22 appearances and keeping three clean sheets during his two seasons at the club. In 2021 he joined Hartford Athletic for his USL Championship and in 2022 he played one match before returning to Tucson ahead of the season.
In recent action, the Mexican keeper has made 29 league appearances for FC Tucson and two appearances in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Overall, he had five clean sheets before the 2022 season ended.
The 24-year-old is a veteran goal scorer as part of the Toros squad as the club prepares for the opening game of the 2023 season against Las Vegas Lights FC at HEB Park on Sunday 12 March. Join Keeper Tyler Derrick.
