Wayne Rooney will coach the Major League Soccer All-Star team against Arsenal this summer.
athletic Current Premier League leaders Arsenal have reportedly lined up as opponents for the Showpiece Game at DC United’s Audi Field in July.
Former Manchester United striker and current DC United head coach Rooney will take on Mikel Arteta for a game in Washington on 19 July.
Rooney said he enjoys playing against “the top clubs in the Premier League”.
“First as a player and now as a manager, I have had a front row seat to the growth and development of Major League Soccer,” said the former England international.
“The opportunity to lead the best the league has to offer against top Premier League clubs like Arsenal is a personal highlight for me and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in DC. prize.”
Owned by American Stan Kroenke, who also owns MLS’ Colorado Rapids, Arsenal beat the All-Star 11 in 2016 with a 2-1 victory over Chuva Akpom and Joel Campbell in San Jose.
The club toured the United States last year and was named All-Stars MVP for the 2021 game before signing goalkeeper Matt Turner from the New England Revolution last summer.

The MLS All-Stars have faced the Liga MX All-Stars in the last two seasons, but this summer’s game represents the return of the European opposition.
MLS XI has played seven Premier League teams since 2005: Fulham, Chelsea, West Ham, Everton, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal.
