ABILENE — The Central girls soccer opened the season on Friday with a convincing 5-1 victory against Abilene Cooper on the road.
Carley Martinez, Adrina Dena, Jillian Hernandez, Lexi Templin and Alexis Rodgers scored goals for the Bobcats as Alyssa Villarreal added two assists, and Emauri Vinson and McKenzie Templin also had helpers on goals.

ANGELO STATE 77, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 63
SILVER CITY, N.M. — Angelo State was golden in the teams’ return to action following the Christmas break on Friday. Three players — Reggie Quezada, Barlow Alleruzzo IV, and Fredelin De La Cruz — scored in double figures as the Rams’ claimed a 77-63 win over Western New Mexico.
For the game, the Rams shot 45.5 percent from the field and a season-best 95.7 percent from the free-throw line (22-for-23).
For the fourth time this season, Quezada scored 16 points.
WOMEN
ANGELO STATE 54, WESTERN NEW MEXICO 50
SILVER CITY, N.M. – After struggling from the field and trailing for the majority of the game, the Angelo State women’s basketball team completed an 11-point comeback to down Western New Mexico 54-50 in Silver City Friday evening.
The Rambelles improve to 10-2 on the season and are now 5-1 in Lone Star Conference action. The Mustangs fall to 2-7 on the year and remain winless, 0-5, in conference play.
Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant led all scorers with 19 points and a season-high 17 rebounds in her fourth double-double of the season.
